Classroom in a Bag is a Houston-based nonprofit dedicated to making sure teachers and students have what they need to succeed—without carrying the weight alone.

Every year, thousands of students come to school without basic supplies, and teachers quietly fill the gap out of their own pockets. We believe no child’s learning and no teacher’s work should suffer because of missing materials.

That’s where we come in.

At Classroom in a Bag, we assist students in need with essential school supplies. Our mission is to ensure teachers and students have the tools they need for successful learning, while empowering our youth and focusing on literacy.

We also provide free professional development to teachers throughout the year, helping them grow in their practice and better support the students they serve.

1. Student Supply Support

• Provide school supplies for students in need

• Create “Classroom in a Bag” kits filled with essential materials

• Partner with schools and community organizations to identify students who need support most

2. Teacher Support & Professional Development

• Offer free, high-quality professional development sessions for teachers

• Focus on literacy, classroom instruction, and practical strategies teachers can use right away

• Help reduce the financial and emotional burden teachers often carry alone

• Center all of our work around reading and writing success

• Equip classrooms with materials that promote strong literacy foundations

• Support activities and events that encourage a love of reading

Strong classrooms build strong communities. Classroom in a Bag is here to make sure every student and teacher we touch feels equipped, encouraged, and seen.

🌟How You Can Help

You can join the mission in several ways:

• Donate – Help fund student supply kits and teacher professional development.

• Partner With Us – Schools, churches, and community groups can collaborate to reach more students and teachers.

• Volunteer – Assist with packing bags, organizing events, or supporting teacher training days.

Together, we can make sure no teacher or student has to go without the tools they need to thrive.

We are not open to the public.  We serve prekindergarten through 12th-grade classroom teachers. Before teachers at a school can participate, the school must have a registered Ambassador who attends orientation. Ambassadors may include principals, instructional coaches, or teachers.
